Governor Signs Letter Asking President to Support Expedited Court Action on Obama Health Care Plan

Topeka – Kansas Governor Sam Brownback released the following statement after joining 27 other governors today in sending a letter to President Obama today requesting him to direct the United States Department of Justice to support an expedited appellate process for the pending healthcare lawsuits to reach the United States Supreme Court as soon as possible.

“If fully enacted, the Obama Health Care plan would devastate the Kansas budget with unaffordable mandates, threatening every other priority in state government. As Governor, I have pledged to make protecting the Kansas economy and Kansas jobs a priority. That is why I have joined an effort for an expedited appeal of the Virginia and Florida health care lawsuits recently decided in favor of the states. A quick resolution from the Supreme Court can provide finality and possibly avoid the implementation of the costly, burdensome and overreaching bill. No matter what the court decides, we should not endure years of litigation when the Supreme Court can promptly provide finality to states, businesses, health care providers and citizens.”
