Closely related to the role of government is fiscal responsibility. The bigger government gets, the more our state’s budget grows and threatens our state’s solvency and thus its competitiveness with our neighbors.
The Kansas budget has skyrocketed in size the past few legislative cycles to the point where we are literally running out of money to even fund mandatory programs. This trend must be reversed through a variety of means – including spending reductions, honest audits of our government agencies, and reform of the budget process so more daylight shines onto where your hard-earned money is going.
Excessive spending has been a hallmark of the Kansas Senate, and I will work to bring fiscal discipline to that chamber, as I did in the Kansas House.
