Inside ALEC Column: Health Care Freedom in Kansas
Mary Pilcher-Cook wrote the following column for the "State Spotlight" section of "Inside ALEC", the monthly newsletter for the American Legislative Exchange Council. For the PDF, click here.

When thinking about how a sequence of events leads to a certain outcome, it can be difficult to recapture all the milestones. However, before the federal health care bill became law, I remember picking up the July 2009 issue of “Inside ALEC” and reading an article about Arizona State Rep. Nancy Barto’s efforts for a “Healthcare Freedom Act” she had sponsored. Her arguments were compelling; I had no doubt Kansas needed this same type of legislation.

Thank You!

Dear Friends,

Thank you for the significant victory of 55%-45% and thank you for the team effort. We could not have won the race without your help.

I want to congratulate Pete Roman on a hard-fought campaign. I wish him and his family all the best and I particularly want to thank his son for the service he has given to our country.

We respected the voter by ignoring the negative campaign tactics driven by huge sums of money from outside forces, and we prevailed by simply adhering to the truth. It was through direct communication and trust that our conservative principles defeated the falsehoods.

I encourage you to let this race be a motivation for you to get involved for other candidates who will fight for our core principles of fiscal responsibility, limited government, the right to life, and the protection of families and children. These are the principles and values I have stood for and will fight for starting in January in the Kansas Senate.

Please sign up for my newsletter so I can keep you informed about the legislative issues during the session. It will be an honor to serve you in Topeka.

Sincerely,

Mary Pilcher Cook
