Mary Pilcher-Cook Welcomes Citizens Tax Reform Ideas

Shawnee – Senator Mary Pilcher-Cook, R-Shawnee, today launched an effort welcoming citizen input for potential tax reform in the state of Kansas. Pilcher-Cook believes input from citizens is critical, in response to President Steve Morris forming a tax policy study group comprised of several Senators. Emails can be sent directly to Pilcher-Cook at mary@pilchercook.com.

“It is important to me that Kansas citizens are heard from in this process. Everyone has a different perspective, particularly small businesses and seniors on fixed incomes. Tax reform is one of the most critical issues we will be wrestling with in the coming legislative session, and with the likelihood that any plan will be long term in nature, we must ensure that the voices of all of our citizens are heard,” said Pilcher-Cook.

Pilcher-Cook said she would take all the ideas received by her constituents into consideration when evaluating tax reform and ensure that ideas consistent with sound economic principles are forwarded to the study group.

“It is important that those of us in Topeka do not take on a bubble mentality when it comes to tax reform. An idea that may sound good in the halls of the Capitol may harm our citizens; likewise, an idea that meets initial resistance in Topeka may in fact be one that helps the people of Kansas.”

Senator Mary Pilcher-Cook was elected in 2008 after serving two terms in the Kansas House.
